How does Child Sponsorship Work?
How Do I Know My Donations are Effective?
When you sponsor a child through The Leaven, you become an unseen guest at all our Leaven activities. Our children treasure the thought that adults they haven’t even met care so much about them. You’ll occasionally receive a note or artwork from a child, and see photos of their activities on our website and in the newsletter. And, through our new Telling Point video blog feature, you’ll be able to watch online videos via our website, created for you by our children. It’s a great way to be “part of the action,” right from your own home!
You are always welcome to come see how your investment is impacting our children. Unlike other sponsorship options, The Leaven is right here in Solano County. You can visit our centers, even volunteer to tutor or teach an activity if you want. You’ll see the results of your donation month after month because we’re just around the corner from where you live, work or shop.
What is My Donation Used Towards?
You’ll receive the confidence that you are giving children very tangible help. The Leaven becomes part of a child’s life, and his or her parents are trusting us to be a positive influence—that’s a huge responsibility. So, we’ll invest your tax-deductible contribution of just $25 a month to provide each child with:
- Tutoring
- Healthy snacks, exercise and nutrition lessons
- Field trips
- Important life-skills training
- And most importantly, the knowledge that he or she is loved—by us and by God
What is The Leaven’s Pledge of Stewardship?
The Leaven takes stewardship of donated dollars and supplies very seriously, knowing how much they matter to the children in our programs. We invest each donation to do the most good possible and to benefit boys and girls with great needs. Because we are a grassroots organization, everything we do in Fairfield and Solano County is hand-on and carefully monitored. Our independent board of directors reviews our expenses and program progress, and holds The Leaven accountable for its stewardship of your gifts. In 2009, 80 cents of every dollar went directly to programs that benefit boys and girls, and 18 cents funded the administration and management of our tutoring, summer camp and community programs. Our fundraising costs represented 2 percent of our income.
